I didnt realise till that point that these men were coming up to this group of little girls, and tapping them on the shoulder, and they would not fight, but they would just follow the man to a room somewhere." The girl was one in a group, who were sitting and playing games like little girls in any culture would do. The difference was that every 15 minutes a man would come up and pick one of them for sex. "These girls smile and wave at the men who come in, because that's what they are made to do. I've come to learn that behind that smile is a scream." In rural villages of Indonesia, where poverty is rife, parents of young girls celebrate when their daughters get their first period. It means the family can sell her off or send her to "work". Luckily there arent pictures of proof. Or i'd be brutally emotional and even more distress than i am now. I reluctantly chewed on my quiche and leaned back against the chair as i allow reality to sip through. I am grateful to have a home and a family who are miles away from such horrific situation. And i used to think that that's how every child would experience growing up life. Truth is, not every kid gets that well-deserved upbringing and shelter they ought to get. A kid would probably be sobbing at this point as i speak. I can hardly imagine the pain and fear in them. Cruel as life can be for them, lets hope that their cries can be saved soon. Soon enough that their wounds can be healed and they receive the protection they need. If you pray, pray for these little ones and for the government do right by them. |
